Here’s to 2012!!!

So here’s to 2012…..this past year we had some highs & some lows. We lost some dear people to us and gained some great friendships through out the year. James and I have been writing down notes here and there through out the past few weeks and we managed to get them all on one paper today. Now we have a list of goals set for us to achieve for our business and family life and I am pretty stoked about them !!

There are allot of changes in store for 2012 and we are ready to start crossing off our list one by one as the year goes by. Thanks everyone who has welcomed us in you lives and allowed us to share in your special memories this past year and we look forward to seeing everyone again this year. Wishing everyone a awesome 2012!! Cheers to you all!!

Merry Christmas!!

This year we had Christmas dinner at our house due to my mother being sick the past few weeks, I volunteered to do it so she could relax and gain her strength back. Typically we are running here and there and everywhere for the holidays so it was nice to stay home for a change. I was nervous about cooking a big dinner because it has been like 10 yrs since the last time I have done one. My poor ipad has had so many notes on recipes and decorating ideas just for this dinner lol. Thankfully the turkey didn’t get burnt and I had no complaints— so I think I did ok=)

It has been another busy year and we cant believe that the New year is right around the corner. We are relieved to finally have a little bit of much needed down time and are looking forward to what the new year has in store for us! I know we haven’t posted much on here but its on our list of goals for next year to blog more often! Hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas!

PWG Bridal Show….

This past Sunday we were set up at the Perfect Wedding Guide show in Columbus, Oh. Typically we just do one show a year but we were offered a spot at the show from another fellow vendor that was unable to take it, so we thought we would give it a shot since it was somewhere different…..so now were in the show and have one week to get ready for it eeeeeekkkkkkk! what was I thinking?? oh wait I wasn’t thinking at all! Luckily we had part of our display done that we did for the last show we attended recently but I wanted to add more detail to it. Overall by the time we got everything glued, painted nailed and whatever else we could do with the display, I must say it turned out better than we had imagined. It was nice to hear many compliments from all of the couples that visited our booth and several other vendors as well, which makes it worth all the hard work put into doing this booth. Thank you Jen & Tonya for staying up late with us Friday evening to finish up the last minute details and another shout out to my good friend Cassandra for meeting us up at the show to help put the display together and to James for all the hard work in building our frame and going with the vision I had for the booth (to him it was totally to girly lol). Below are some photos from the show of our booth. Can you believe this whole vision came from my beautiful strap that Jen’s Creations made for me a few months ago:)

Changes….

The last couple of weeks I have been really thinking a lot about our business from when we started to where we are today. We have grown so much and so fast. I honestly never thought we would grow in our business as much as we have and there are so many people to thank for that–all of our family, friends, clients and of course God who has blessed us in so many ways.

I remember we would book as many sessions we possibly could and each year we kept saying we would not do as many as last year but it seems that each year its more and more then the year before. Plus I always have a hard time telling people no. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to talk with a fellow photographer friend and we were talking about everything under the moon from our kiddos to camera stuff. She made a comment on value of time and value of our work and it really started making me think more and more of our business and the value and time of it.

It made me realize that it is time for a better balance, its been a long time coming but we are ready. We have decided to make a ton of changes. First we only are going to take a limited amount of sessions each month and a limited amount of weddings for next year. We are booked this year with 48 weddings and no I will not take any more bookings for weddings (wow i just said I was not going to book any more weddings this year! yay me lol) …Right now we have 6 weddings for 2012 and our max will be 2-3 a month.

Our pricing will be changing as well–yes you will be paying more but getting so much more. We continue to challenge ourselves and continue to strive to be differant– we dont want to be your average photographers. . We LOVE what we do but are wanting a better balance of having a family life and valuing our works worth. Our work is art and is displayed in someones home, office and business. Our boys are growing to fast and we want to be able to share these precious times with them before its to late. ~New pricing will start May 1st, 2011~** Sessions that are already booked will still get old pricing**

Well last night I received a email notification that we had a new comment on one of our blog posts from a client of ours……. after reading it I realized how much we were behind on blogging. I have been doing some updates on face book when I can, but have totally neglected our blog. Well there goes our New Years resolution! So now we are trying to get back on track, we have so many exciting things to blog about and we want everyone to know about it!! James and I are so excited about being choosen one of the the knots best wedding photographer pick for 2011– This means, brides from this year has written raves about our work! This year has been pretty awesome, some of our work will also be in the Columbus Bride Magazine for Summer/Fall Edition and Huntington Park is putting some of our work in their stadium! Wow this is allot in one year for us but we are blessed!! A huge Thank You to everyone that has written awesome raves about us, you guys rock! Thank you everyone who has supported, we are very greatful and Thankful for being where we are today! We are looking forward for what 2011 has in store for us=)!

Santa’s is coming to the studio…..

In appreciation to all of our clients who have helped our studio grow to where it is today we are having a celebration at our studio on December 5, 2010 from 12-5. You may come at anytime to get your free photo with Santa and of course after your photo with Santa we would like for you to stay for a bit and enjoy the cookies and milk we will have provided. Don’t forget to sign up for the door prizes we will be giving away ( you do not have to be present for the drawing). We truly are blessed to have been able to photograph so many people this past year and would like to THANK EVERYONE from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to be apart of your families lives. We are back….

Yes, I know we are soooo behind on blogging! Last week I felt bad, I had a client that came in for a session and said ” I was just on your blog and noticed you have not been on for a few months….so our goal is to update our blog more frequently and believe me it is on our new year’s resolution list. Just to bring all of our readers up to speed on whats been going on in our world….as most of you know that I have family from all over the world and my aunty is coming to visit from New Zealand next month so it was time to get the rest of our house remodeled. We have been remodeling our home the past year., so once we got the call she was coming I had to put the whip on getting things done. Thankfully I am blessed to have a husband that is a jack of all trades.

So the last 2 weeks we have been staying in a hotel and my mothers home while our home was being remodeled. Just this past Monday we were able to move back in. We still have some painting to do here and there but we finally have a home again. We will post some before and after pictures later.

While remodeling and taking pictures and watching the boys play sports, has given us little time to blog. From time to time we have been able to Facebook some sessions but thats about it. With that being said more posts to come on a more regular basis. Plus we want to give a big shout out to our new help Tonya for being able to help get us caught up on blogging and facebook.

Back to school…..

This year was special to us, another milestone in both of our boys lives. While taking Isaiah to school it hit me that my little man is now turning into a young man, he was starting his first year of high school. Its amazing to think back when he was little, I remember holding his hand until we entered the school and he would either kiss me on the cheek or blow me a kiss. Then he would smile at me with his missing tooth in the front and say mom I love you! see ya later! So when we dropped him off at school today he jumped out the car looked over his shoulder and waved goodbye and was off with his friends. I was in disbelief! no kisses and no i love yous! and he wouldn’t stand long enough for us to get his picture. Of course James says Heidi he is growing up, look at him he is as tall as me and is starting to grow a mustache besides do you want to embarrass him in front of his friends. So then I realized that James was right, my little man is becoming a young man ………well no matter what he is is still my little man.

Now we are headed to drop Jakai off at school, this is his first day of Kindergarten. We are really excited for him because he has asked everyday for the last week if school starts that day, so today we were able to tell him yes. Now, we are at the school and of course we are taking pictures of Jakai in front of the school. Once again as we walk into the school together hand in hand as we enter the lunch room where all the kids are suppose to go to in the mornings we head over to find the line where Jakai is suppose to sit. So I take him to the line and this time I have a curly top little man with a missing tooth at the bottom smiling at me and leans in giving me a kiss on my cheek and saying mom I love you. Can you believe it– I lost it (deja vu all over again)! so I hurried up out of the lunch room so Jakai wouldn’t see me bawl my eyes out then I knew my boys were getting big, time is flying by way to fast! Take every moment and cherish every minute of it because they grow up to fast…..

Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend! It was great that we were blessed with beautiful weather the whole time. James and I spent our holiday weekend with 3 different brides, yep a busy weekend but it was a great time! We did spend a lot of travel time together so it gave us a chance to talk more about the business and everything that we plan on doing the next few months=) We are looking into hiring an extra hand at the studio to help us get caught up on things here and there and we are changing our whole pricing structure. New pricing and packages will take place the top of August. Even though it was a busy weekend it did give us some time to talk business! We plan on blogging more and doing more on our facebook so stay tuned for the new changes coming soon….
